Underwear

What is underwear for a modern woman? That which cannot be dispensed with. Firstly, this is hygiene, and secondly, independence and ease. And finally, the main thing is aesthetics. As you know, this was not always the case.

Lingerie in the form in which we know it is a very recent invention. However, to be fair, it is impossible not to mention that to one degree or another, many eras and peoples knew something like linen.

The basis of the current bra can be considered a corset (the word “corset” comes from French. Corps – body). Even in ancient Greece and Rome, women wore leather bandages under a tunic or tunic, tightening their stomach and supporting their breasts. Mosaic images of female masseuses from Roman baths are preserved, on which loincloths and chest bands are worn, which together resembles a separate swimsuit.

For centuries, Europeans did not know underwear, except, perhaps, for a shirt, which, however, was so rare that it was not worth mentioning: Only in the XIV-XV centuries did a corset turn into an independent type of clothing. By the XVI-XVII centuries, this is already a complex structure of leather and metal plates, a whalebone and even wood. It pulled together the female torso with a real carapace, not allowing it to naturally breathe and move.

In the XVIII century, the corset became the main decoration of the woman. He not only divided the figure to the top and bottom, creating an incredibly narrow waist, but also opened the indiscreet gaze to all the beauties of magnificent “snow-capped peaks” and ended with a thin and long sharp angle, referred to only as a “guide to the valley of joy”. It was the gallant XVIII century that gave rise to fashion and invented means to make the female breasts more magnificent and taller.

The French Revolution was seriously engaged in corsets, declaring them with the pen of J.-J. Rousseau “the culprits of the degeneration of the human race.”

The ban on corsets was demanded by doctors, philosophers, reformers. He disappeared, but not for long. By the 1810s, the fashion for corsets revived, and since 1820 their production was put on an industrial basis.

The next attack on corsets was led in 1905 by the famous fashion designer Paul Poiret, creating free-style dresses that did not require a corset. And his wife was the first to appear in the world without this important attribute of female seduction.

After World War I, the corset disappeared, disintegrating into a bra and an elastic belt for stockings. Bra literally translated from German means “bust holder.” In 1903, the world’s first bra was tested at the Paris Medical Academy. He was invented by a female doctor, Gauche Capo, a warrior for hygienic women’s clothing. It consisted of elastic strips 3-10 cm wide, the number of which could be changed depending on the volume of the chest. At that time, skirts and knickers were held on bras.

After 10 years in America, the bra was reinvented by Mary Phelps Jacob. She made “experienced” bras from handkerchiefs with the help of a handmaid, patenting her invention in 1915. The invention was not successful at first, but Mary’s husband, who worked in a corset firm, offered his owners a novelty. Those turned out to be visionaries, having bought a patent from the inventor for 15 thousand dollars.

Modern linen has gone far from its prototypes. Today, designers are sophisticated not only in the decoration and ornament of linen, but also in such seemingly secondary things as the label and packaging.

The range of underwear offered to a modern woman is extremely wide and diverse. You can buy panties and a bra separately and in a set, buy a grace or a half-grace, a body or a combi-dress. In addition, there are special offers: sticky disposable transparent cups that replace the bra and support the breasts with the most open and low-cut dresses, panties and knickers that create the effect of the “Brazilian butt” (round and upturned), anti-cellulite underwear.

If you are going to replenish stocks of linen, carefully examine your wardrobe – you have a difficult choice! If your clothes are mostly dark, you should consider whether you need dazzling white underwear. If you wear tight-fitting T-shirts and jumpers, your bras should not be full of parts protruding from under the knitwear – get something simpler. Does your wardrobe have dresses with a large neckline on the back? What will you wear it with? A transparent blouse? A tight-fitting dress that requires a bodysuit? Make a plan without missing anything.

Properly selected linen will stay with you for a long time and become the closest friend, adjusting and improving what you got from nature. Therefore, do not skimp on an expensive option – it will justify your expectations in full.
